Ezekwesili Slams FG Over New Presidential Jet Amid Economic Crisis

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Former Minister of Solid Minerals, Oby Ezekwesili, has strongly condemned the purchase of a new presidential jet, calling it a reckless decision amidst Nigeria’s economic crisis. The presidency recently confirmed the acquisition of an Airbus A330 to replace the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700.

Ezekwesili, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, criticized President Tinubu and the national assembly for prioritizing the purchase of a new jet over addressing the country’s pressing issues, such as hunger and poverty. She described the move as “fiscal profligacy” and accused the political class of being “against Nigerians.”

The former minister, who served in a previous administration, defended her right to criticize the current government, citing her own record of integrity and service to the country. She also expressed concerns about the state of the economy, which she believes has worsened since President Tinubu took office in May 2023.

Ezekwesili’s comments come as the country grapples with economic challenges, including high levels of poverty and hunger. The purchase of the new presidential jet has sparked controversy, with many Nigerians questioning the government’s priorities.
