ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has strongly debunked viral reports alleging an active kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School in the Gbagalape area of Abuja, declaring the incident a false alarm.
The swift clarification followed widespread panic early Thursday morning, June 4, 2026, when social media alerts claimed that heavily armed bandits had breached the local school facility to abduct pupils.
Okay News reports that the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, issued an official statement explaining that the Nyanya Divisional Police Headquarters received a panicked distress call at approximately 10:30 a.m. alleging an ongoing mass abduction. In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately mobilized tactical operational units and plainclothes surveillance teams to the academic premises.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that students had suddenly started shouting ‘kidnappers’ and running out of the school premises, creating panic among teachers and members of the community,” Adeh stated. Security operatives immediately cordoned off the entire academic environment and conducted a rigorous, room-by-room physical sweep.
Following an extensive search and the strategic questioning of administrators, security guards, and residents within the immediate perimeter, the Command confirmed that no kidnapping incident occurred, no hostile suspects were sighted, and no individuals were missing. To guarantee community safety, police teams extended their physical patrols to the surrounding hills, border boundary lines, and adjacent communities, while nearby schools were visited to provide precautionary security reassurances. The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged the public to remain completely calm and desist from circulating unverified security rumors capable of stoking unnecessary communal tension.
