YOLA, Nigeria — Four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a soldier, and another passenger have died following a fatal road accident involving a military vehicle and a commercial bus in Adamawa State.
Okay News reports that the crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon along the Girei–Song Highway near the Narehi area. According to authorities, the collision involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus heading from Yola to Mubi. The impact reportedly caused the bus to overturn before it caught fire, trapping and killing all five passengers on board.
Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson Suleiman Ngurore confirmed the incident, stating that four of the deceased passengers were NYSC members serving in the state. Two of the victims were identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts continue to identify the remaining victims and notify their families. A soldier attached to the military vehicle also lost his life in the accident.
Police officers and emergency responders were deployed to the scene, and the bodies were evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola. Authorities said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
