WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump has criticised lawmakers who voted to limit his authority over military action involving Iran, describing their move as “unpatriotic” amid ongoing efforts to end the conflict.
Okay News reports that the U.S. House of Representatives voted 215-208 on Wednesday to approve a war powers resolution seeking to prevent further military action against Iran unless Congress grants approval. The measure would require the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the conflict or formal authorisation from lawmakers before additional military operations can proceed.
Reacting on Truth Social, Trump accused Democrats and four Republican lawmakers of undermining his negotiations with Iran. He argued that the vote came at a critical stage of talks aimed at ending the war and dismissed the resolution as meaningless. The White House has also rejected the measure, calling it an unconstitutional attempt to restrict presidential powers.
The resolution must still pass the Republican-controlled Senate before advancing further. Although largely viewed as symbolic, the vote increases pressure on the administration as rising fuel prices and growing public opposition continue to fuel debate over the conflict. The outcome also highlights divisions within the Republican Party, with four GOP lawmakers joining Democrats in support of the measure.
