KANO, Nigeria – A former Deputy Governor of Nigeria‘s Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress effective immediately.
Okay News reports that Gwarzo outlined his decision in a resignation letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in the Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters and well-wishers across the state,” he said.
Gwarzo attributed his departure to a need to review his party membership in alignment with his political vision and current events. “Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he stated.
“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values and sustainable development of our dear state,” he added.
The former deputy governor closed his letter by expressing gratitude to the political organisation. “I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect and support I received during my stay in the party,” he said.
