Ghanaian police have arrested Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, a Nigerian national wanted in connection with the FRSC killing of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter in Ogun State, Nigeria, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
Okay News reports that the FRSC killing case gained international attention after Fajemirokun fled Nigeria and crossed into the Republic of Ghana, prompting a multi-agency manhunt across West Africa.
According to George Ohene-Boadi, Regional Commander of the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Ghana — an agency under the Ghana Police Service — the suspect travelled to Ghana to evade arrest by Nigerian security agencies who had circulated intelligence reports and video evidence linked to the FRSC killing.
He stated that Ghanaian officers launched an intelligence-led operation after receiving information that Fajemirokun was hiding in a residence in Akutia, in Ghana’s Eastern Region, adding that the FRSC killing investigation had been escalated due to its cross-border implications.
Okay News reports that the FRSC killing case began after Lasisi Funmilayo, an FRSC staff member, and her daughter Sewa travelled with the suspect to Osun State, Nigeria, on 2 November. Their disappearance triggered a nationwide search and later extended into Ghana as more clues emerged.
Nigerian authorities allege that the FRSC killing involved a wider criminal group, including a self-acclaimed herbalist, leading to undercover operations in Osun and Ekiti States where additional suspects were arrested.
Okay News reports that investigators recovered the victims’ remains in a bushy area after analysing communication data connected to the FRSC killing, with police sources suggesting that suspects in custody provided crucial information about the location.
Ghanaian authorities confirmed that Fajemirokun is currently in police custody and that arrangements are being made to hand him over to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) under established regional security cooperation frameworks guiding cross-border criminal investigations, including those related to the FRSC killing.
Okay News reports that both nations are coordinating efforts to ensure the FRSC killing investigation reaches a timely and transparent conclusion as security agencies across West Africa strengthen collaboration on transnational crime.
