Governor Buni Appoints Yerima Ibn Mahmud as New Emir of Ngazargamu

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

DAMATURU, Nigeria — Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu following the death of the late monarch, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam.

The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje. The late Emir died recently in Egypt after a prolonged illness and was laid to rest in Geidam on Thursday following funeral prayers in Damaturu.

Okay News reports that before ascending the throne, Yerima Ibn Mahmud held the traditional title of Turakin Ngazargamu, a position he occupied for 16 years. He also previously served as a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly.

Governor Buni congratulated the new Emir and the people of the Ngazargamu Emirate, expressing confidence in the monarch’s ability to provide purposeful leadership and build on the legacy of his predecessor.

The governor urged the new Emir to draw on his experience to strengthen unity among the people, promote peaceful coexistence, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the emirate, Yobe State, and the country as a whole.

He also called on residents of the emirate to rally behind the new traditional ruler and support his efforts to advance peace, stability, and prosperity across the domain.
