KATSINA, Nigeria — The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who had spent several weeks in the custody of bandits following his abduction.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu, the retired military officer died from complications related to diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.
As Okay News reports, the state government described the late General’s abduction and eventual death as a tragic loss not only to his immediate family and Katsina State but also to Nigeria as a whole.
The statement conveyed the condolences of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to the family of the deceased, as well as to Nigerians mourning the loss of the retired senior military officer.
Governor Radda described the incident as a dark moment, saying it highlights the urgent need for stronger and more coordinated efforts to confront criminal groups responsible for insecurity in communities across the country.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure those responsible for the abduction and death of the retired General are identified and brought to justice.
He also assured residents that the state government remains resolute in its campaign against banditry and will continue working to protect lives and property throughout Katsina State.
