RIVERS STATE, Nigeria: Nigeria’s Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara issued a goodwill message on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and inclusive development to mark the state’s 59th anniversary.
Okay News reports that Siminalayi Fubara released a statement at 12:50 p.m. WAT acknowledging the resilience and unity of citizens across the various ethnic nationalities in the state, including the Ijaw, Ikwerre, Ogoni, Etche, Ekpeye, Andoni, and Kalabari.
Siminalayi Fubara said, “Rivers State has remained a major driver of Nigeria’s economy for decades, not only because of its abundant oil and gas resources, but also because of the exceptional contributions of its people across diverse sectors including academia, jurisprudence, business, entertainment, public service, and sports.”
The administration will prioritize policies that protect lives and property while providing equal attention to every Local Government Area within the state. The governor also acknowledged the roles of state elders, founding leaders, youths, and women in maintaining regional stability.
Siminalayi Fubara asked “Rivers people to use the occasion of the anniversary as a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, dialogue, and collective progress, stressing that the unity and future of Rivers State must always rise above personal interests and political differences.”
Rivers State was established on May 27, 1967, when the administration of General Yakubu Gowon created 12 states out of four regions, dividing the former Eastern Region.
