Gunmen Abduct Three Family Members in Ogun State Community

NIGERIA — Gunmen abducted three members of a family from their residence at Ipojo Golden Estate in the Oke-Eri area of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, at approximately 7pm WAT on Monday, May 11, 2026.

Okay News reports that the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the abduction on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, stating that the command had activated tactical and intelligence operations to rescue the victims. Approximately 15 armed men invaded the community and entered the family residence while the head of the household, a government employee, was away at his duty post.

“The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the incident at Ipojo Golden Estate, Oke-Eri, Ijebu Ode, and has intensified tactical and intelligence operations to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators,” Babaseyi said. He added that the command remains committed to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.

Witnesses stated that the assailants ransacked the house before taking the victims toward a nearby forest. One woman was shot during the attack as the gunmen made their escape from the estate.

The head of the Badewa family, Mr. Yesiru Badewa, said the victims included two women and one man. He expressed concern regarding the health of one of the abducted women who was ill prior to the incident.

“We are deeply worried because one of the women is sick, and the hardship in captivity may worsen her condition,” Badewa said. He appealed to the Ogun State Government for support in securing their release.

A community leader in Ipojo Golden Estate, Mr. Kehinde, said the incident was unexpected in the area. “We never imagined such an incident could happen in this community. Residents were caught unawares because this is considered a peaceful and developed area,” Kehinde said.

Local fish farmers recently requested increased security from the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and the Nigeria Police Force Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, following previous abductions in the region. These earlier incidents included the kidnapping of a farmer and four women at the Alayo Fish Farm Cluster in Agoro, who were reportedly released after the payment of a N70 million ($43,750) ransom.
