Nicosia, CYPRUS — French President Emmanuel Macron has officially confirmed that he will leave the political arena entirely once his second and final term at the Élysée Palace concludes in 2027.
The 48-year-old leader made the revelation during an informal exchange with students at the French-Cypriot School in Nicosia.
Addressing the students during an official visit to Cyprus, Macron was asked about his future plans given the constitutional limit that prevents him from seeking a third consecutive term.
Okay News reports that the President was unequivocal, stating he has no intention of remaining in politics in any capacity after his tenure ends.
Macron’s presidency has been marked by significant domestic reforms and a heavy focus on European integration, as well as navigating the complexities of the U.S.-Iran conflict and its impact on global fuel prices. His announcement clarifies the 2027 succession race, which is already beginning to take shape within his Renaissance party and across the French political spectrum. By opting for a complete exit rather than a shift to another domestic or EU role, Macron follows the precedent of several of his predecessors who sought lives outside the immediate political spotlight.
