Abuja, NIGERIA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially debunked a viral social media post claiming a candidate from Cross River State scored an unprecedented 394 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The board clarified on Sunday that the result slip circulating online is a fabrication and does not exist in its official database.
The controversy began after a user on the social media platform X, @Onsogbu, shared a purportedly “remarkable performance” by a female candidate identified as Okon Winniefred Sampson.
Okay News reports that the post claimed Sampson scored 394 out of a possible 400 marks, a figure that would have set a near-perfect record for the national examination.
JAMB has consistently warned the public against “result manipulation” and the use of third-party apps to generate fake scores. The board emphasized that the only authentic way to verify UTME results is through its official website or by using the designated SMS shortcode. Officials noted that the format of the viral result slip lacked the standard security features and digital watermarks present in legitimate 2026 documentation.
