Kano Hisbah Denies Link to LGBTQ, Vows to Prosecute Official

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Kano State Hisbah Board has distanced itself from a social media post linking it to the LGBTQ community, stating that the state’s Shariah law prohibits same-sex marriage. A video circulating online showed a man claiming to be a Hisbah official defending the rights of the LGBTQ community.

The Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, clarified that the individual in the video is a staff member but did not represent the organization. Daurawa emphasized that Hisbah has been combating gay clubs in the state and will not tolerate any promotion of LGBTQ activities.

The official in question, Idris Ahmed, has apologized for his actions, claiming ignorance about the meaning of LGBTQ. The state government has directed Hisbah to take action against organizations promoting LGBTQ under the guise of addressing gender inequality.
