Lionel Messi who has welcomed his second baby Mateo with his partner. Lionel Messi missed Barcelona training on Friday morning to welcome his second child into the world after girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo gave birth to a son.
The Argentina international only returned to the club on Thursday following international duty but was excused from his first training session to attend the birth of Benjamin.
Enrique told reporters at a press conference on Friday: ‘He [Messi] is available to play. He is on the list. The club gave him permission not to train today for personal reasons.’
There was some confusion over the name, which Sport and many others in Spain first reported as Benjamin. Ahead of an official announcement, Messi’s brother tweeted in Spanish that the child’s name was Mateo, confirmed by Spanish football writer Guillem Balague:
