Nestlé Nigeria has moved to calm public concerns after a voluntary recall of certain batches of infant formula was announced in some international markets, stressing that products sold in Nigeria are not affected.
Okay News reports that the company said none of the infant formula products distributed by Nestlé Nigeria fall within the scope of the precautionary recall announced abroad, adding that all its locally sold products remain safe for babies.
In a statement addressing the situation, the company said the recall applies only to specific batches in some countries and does not involve any products available in the Nigerian market.
“We would like to clarify that Infant Formula sold by Nestlé Nigeria is not part of the voluntary and precautionary recall of specific batches of Infant Formula announced in some countries,” the company stated.
Nestlé Nigeria also confirmed that all its infant formula brands sold locally are fully registered and approved by Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the government regulator responsible for food and drug safety.
“We want to emphasize that the Nestlé Infant Formula products sold by Nestlé Nigeria and officially registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) are not affected by this recall,” the statement added.
The company further assured parents and caregivers that its popular infant nutrition brands remain safe for consumption, including SMA Gold 1, SMA Gold 2 and SMA Gold 3, as well as NAN Optipro 1, NAN Optipro 2 and NAN Optipro 3.
“We would like to reassure that all SMA (SMA Gold 1, SMA Gold 2 and SMA Gold 3) and NAN product ranges (NAN Optipro 1, NAN Optipro 2 and NAN Optipro 3) sold by Nestlé Nigeria are safe for consumption,” Nestlé said.
Reaffirming its commitment to child health and product integrity, the company said safety and quality remain its highest priorities.
“The safety and quality of our products, and the health of babies, are our top priorities,” the statement concluded.
The clarification comes amid heightened public attention following the international recall, as parents in several countries were advised to return certain infant formula batches as a precautionary measure. Nestlé Nigeria said Nigerian consumers can continue to use its infant nutrition products with confidence.
