ABUJA, Nigeria: Nigeria‘s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordered enhanced security deployments across the country on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Okay News reports that the Nigeria Police Force issued a statement through the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, detailing operational measures to safeguard lives and property.
The directive instructs Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen proactive policing measures. “The Inspector-General joins all Nigerians in celebrating this auspicious occasion and prays for peace, unity, and prosperity for our great nation,” Placid said.
Operational measures include the strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional personnel to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and critical national assets. The police will increase visibility policing, coordinated patrols, and intelligence-led stop-and-search operations.
Disu urged citizens to provide timely information to security agencies. “Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” Disu said.
“Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy,” Disu said. The Nigeria Police Force established four dedicated emergency contact lines for the public: 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785, and 09133333786.
