Sokoto, Nigeria: Nigeria’s Sokoto State Police Command foiled an attack by armed bandits, recovered 167 rounds of ammunition, and arrested suspects during coordinated operations across Sokoto State in April 2026.
Okay News reports that Nigeria’s Commissioner of Police for the Sokoto State Police Command, Hassan Shaffa, announced the operational successes during a press briefing on Friday, April 24, 2026. “The Command remains resolute, proactive, and strategically positioned to confront and decisively neutralize all forms of criminal activities within the state,” Shaffa said.
Police operatives, working with the military and local vigilantes, engaged attackers in a gun duel at Kwarangamba and Gaya villages in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area on April 8, 2026. “During the pursuit, the bandits abandoned a sack containing 167 rounds of live ammunition, which was recovered and registered as exhibits,” Shaffa said.
The police executed coordinated raids on criminal hideouts in the Tambuwal, Kware, and Goronyo local government areas on April 15, 2026, arresting three suspects and recovering locally made firearms, an AK-47 magazine, military camouflage, and suspected Indian hemp. “All the suspects have been charged in court accordingly. These operations are part of our sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks,” Shaffa said.
Operatives also intercepted a suspected logistics supplier identified as Aminu Meroba along the Tangaza axis with four cows suspected to be rustled. “The suspect confessed to receiving the animals from a terrorist group with the intention of selling them and returning the proceeds,” Shaffa said.
Addressing concerns about insecurity in the Achida and Gurno communities, the police commissioner confirmed the command is strengthening intelligence gathering. “We are aware of the situation in Achida, Gurno, and other areas. We have men on the ground and are deploying more tactical teams. That axis is now a priority,” Shaffa said.
