KADUNA, Nigeria – An attack on the Angwan Magaji community in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State left nine people dead and 11 others injured at approximately 1 a.m. WAT on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, stated the attackers invaded the community and opened fire on residents. Okay News reports that Yonkpa identified the residents of the affected community as predominantly members of the Irigwe ethnic group.
The deceased victims were identified as Jerry Doctor, 51; Danlami Magani, 49; Sunday Chibi, 53; Rita Abdullahi, 45; Sunday Elkan, 5; Esther Kefas, 5; Happy Friday, 6; Moses Daddy, 4; and Daddy Ibrahim, 28.
Danjuma Dickson Auta, the National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, confirmed the incident and called on security agencies to investigate the attack and prosecute the perpetrators.
The residents of Angwan Magaji primarily trace their roots to the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, which borders the Kamaru Ward where the violence occurred.
Auta appealed to all levels of government to take steps to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
