The Nigeria U-23 team arrived in Lagos on Monday night from Brazil, where they participated in the men’s football event of the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The team won the bronze medal after beating Honduras 3-2 in the third place match on Saturday.

While several members of the squad went straight to their bases in Europe from Brazil, the likes of vice-captain Azubuike Okechukwu, midfielder Usman Muhammed, left-back Stanley Amuzie, midfielder Saliu Popoola and new Al Ahly of Egypt striker Junior Ajayi landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos with the rest of the squad.

Also the coaches, led by Samson Siasia, were on board the South Africa Airways flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil, which arrived in Lagos around 8.30pm Monday night.

The Olympic Eagles won Nigeria’s only medal at Rio 2016, the country’s first since Beijing 2008.

The team won four of their six matches in Brazil and lost two, including the semi-final to Germany.
