ABUJA, Nigeria, April 21, 2026 — Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in multiple roles since the beginning of the administration in May 2023.
Edun, who also previously served as head of the Presidential Transition Committee and Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, said it was an honour to contribute to the implementation of the government’s economic agenda during what he described as a critical period in Nigeria’s development.
In a statement issued from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Edun said the administration inherited challenging economic conditions but had worked collectively to implement reforms aimed at stabilising the macroeconomic environment and strengthening fiscal sustainability.
Okay News reports that Edun highlighted improvements in key economic indicators, stating that growth increased from 2 percent to over 4 percent, while inflation declined from 35 percent to 15 percent during the period under review.
“I wish to thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for the opportunity to serve our country from the outset of his administration in May 2023; first as head of the Presidential Transition Committee, then in my role as Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, before my appointment as Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy,” Edun said.
“It has been an honour to contribute to the implementation of the administration’s economic agenda at a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s journey.”
He said the reforms were driven by efforts to restore public trust, improve investor confidence, and promote inclusive growth, adding that the progress achieved was the result of collaboration across government institutions, state authorities, and partners in both the public and private sectors.
“I am proud of what we achieved alongside colleagues in the Federal Executive Council, State Governors, our partners in the public and private sectors, and the many dedicated professionals whose work continues to support the nation’s economic transformation,” he said.
Edun acknowledged that while progress had been made, further work remains necessary to sustain economic transformation, expressing optimism about the country’s long-term outlook.
“The work of economic reform is, by its nature, a continuous process; I remain optimistic about Nigeria’s trajectory,” he said.
He also extended appreciation to domestic and international stakeholders for their support during his tenure and wished his successor success in continuing the administration’s economic agenda.
“I wish my successor and the entire government the very best as they continue the work of improving the lives of Nigerians,” he added.
Edun reaffirmed his commitment to national service and support for the administration moving forward.
