Abuja, Nigeria – Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, early Wednesday, May 20, 2026, WAT (GMT+1).
The Grammy-nominated artist shared the information in a series of posts on her Instagram account.
Okay News reports that Ndika served as the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music.
In one post, Apata said, “God took him.” In another, she said, “My husband died.” In a third post, she said, “God took him. 13 years. 13 f***ing years.”
The 39-year-old singer rose to prominence after emerging as the runner-up on the 2013 edition of Project Fame West Africa. She gained international recognition with her 2017 hit single Maradona, which earned praise from global artists including DJ Snake, Drake, Timbaland, and Beyoncé.
The circumstances surrounding the death were not immediately disclosed.
