ABUJA, Nigeria — Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed condolences to the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, following the death of her younger brother, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo.
Okay News reports that Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, a member of the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom in Delta State, died on May 30, according to a statement issued by palace authorities.
Reacting to the loss, Obi described the death of a younger sibling as a painful and difficult experience. In a message addressed to Okonjo-Iweala, he extended his sympathies to her, the royal family of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, and all those who were close to the deceased.
“It is with profound sorrow that I received the sad news of the demise of Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, your younger brother,” Obi said, adding that he prayed for God to grant the late prince eternal rest and give the family the strength to bear the loss.
The Ogwashi-Uku Palace had earlier announced the passing of Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, describing him as a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother and respected member of the royal family whose death has left a significant void within the kingdom and among his loved ones.
