The Edo State Police Command has initiated rescue operations following the abduction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in the state, Tony Aziegbemi, by unknown gunmen.

Aziegbemi was kidnapped on Friday night shortly after a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House in Benin City.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Government assured that it is working closely with security agencies to secure the safe release of the victim.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Chidi Nwabuzor, urged Edo residents to provide any useful information to aid in the rescue effort.

According to the police statement, the Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, has ordered tactical teams, in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters, to conduct rescue operations and ensure the safe return of Aziegbemi.

The victim’s driver, who witnessed the abduction, reported that armed men intercepted their vehicle and forcibly took Aziegbemi away.

The police have called on the public to cooperate and provide information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and the safe rescue of the victim.
