Police Union Calls for IGP’s Removal Over Alleged Recruitment Interference

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission has urged President Bola Tinubu to relieve Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of his duties. The union alleges that Egbetokun interfered with the recent police constable recruitment process and that some top Nigerian Police Force officers attempted to smuggle names into the recruitment list.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the union members protested and sang songs, accusing the NPF of using diversionary tactics to hide the unpreparedness of police training schools. The schools are reportedly in disrepair and unable to handle training for the new recruits.

The call for the Inspector General’s removal comes after the Police Service Commission released the names of 10,000 successful candidates from the recent recruitment exercise.
