Presidential Aide Says Nigeria’s Response To Genocide Allegations Is Balanced And Resolute

By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

The Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed recent allegations of genocide against Christians in Nigeria, describing the government’s diplomatic response as firm, factual, and guided by truth.

Speaking in an interview with ARISE News on Monday, Bwala explained that the Nigerian government had intensified global media outreach to correct what he called “false and misleading claims” circulating internationally about religious persecution in the country.

He specifically addressed statements attributed to former United States President Donald Trump, who had threatened potential military intervention over alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria.

According to Bwala, the claims were baseless and misrepresented Nigeria’s complex security situation.

“There is no genocide against Christians in Nigeria. What we have is insecurity that affects people of all religious and non-religious beliefs — Muslims, Christians, and others alike,” he said.

He stated that President Tinubu’s administration remains dedicated to defeating terrorism through stronger international cooperation and intelligence sharing, particularly with the United States and other global allies.

“Our engagements focus on intelligence sharing, mutual respect, and cooperation, while safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty,” Bwala added.

Okay News reports that Bwala emphasized the need for global actors to avoid framing insecurity in Nigeria as a religious conflict. He noted that such mischaracterizations only worsen divisions and derail the nation’s collective efforts to achieve peace and stability.

“If we were to rank the nation’s priorities, this issue would come fourth. Our key focus areas remain security, food security, agriculture, and healthcare,” he said.

He further noted that Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement was intentionally firm yet cautious, designed to protect the nation’s image without compromising international goodwill.

“This is about protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and correcting misinformation. The government will continue to engage responsibly and transparently,” he stated.

Reaffirming the administration’s stance on equality, Bwala said every Nigerian, regardless of religious or ethnic background, deserves equal protection under the law.

“Every Nigerian life matters equally,” he said. “This administration stands for peace, unity, and fairness across all faiths.”
