Prince Harry and Wife, Meghan Markle, to Visit Nigeria in May

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are set to visit Nigeria in May, according to a statement by the Defence Headquarters’ Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau.

During their stay, the royal couple will meet with service members and host various cultural activities. The visit is aimed at consolidating Nigeria’s participation in the Invictus Games, an international multi-sporting event founded by Prince Harry to support the recovery of wounded, injured, and sick service members.

Nigeria made a successful debut at the games last year, winning gold and bronze medals. The visit also explores the possibility of Nigeria hosting the event in the future. The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has expressed willingness to host the games if granted to Nigeria.

The Invictus Games has grown in popularity, with over 500 participants from 21 nations, including Nigeria, attending the last edition. The event provides a platform for soldiers to receive recognition and support in their rehabilitation journey.

The exact dates of the royal visit have not been announced, but it is expected to take place in May. This will be the first time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit Nigeria.
