Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the Brisbane International, saying he is not ready for the competition after a long season.

The world number one had already pulled out of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

But the 31-year old however hinted he will participate in the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open.

Nadal in a tweet on his official Twitter handle @RafaelNadal on Thursday morning said, “I am sorry to announce I won’t be coming to Brisbane this year. My intention was to play but I am still not ready after last year’s long season and the start of my preparation. I had a great time there and it was a great start to the month I spent in Australia.”
