WASHINGTON, United States – Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has concluded a high-level working visit to the United States aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation on counterterrorism and defense.
Okay News reports that during the three-day diplomatic mission, Ribadu held strategic discussions with U.S. Vice President James David Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The meetings focused on enhancing intelligence sharing, economic resilience, and addressing the escalating threats of violent extremism across West Africa and the Sahel region.
The Nigerian envoy reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the longstanding partnership, emphasizing the importance of the Nigeria-U.S. Joint Working Group. Discussions between both delegations explored practical steps to improve border security, military cooperation, and capacity development for Nigerian security institutions.
US officials acknowledged Nigeria’s frontline leadership in stabilizing the Lake Chad Basin and praised the administration’s comprehensive approach to national security. The talks concluded with a mutual agreement to sustain diplomatic dialogue and tackle the root causes of regional instability through community engagement and economic development.
