ABUJA, Nigeria – Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has publicly rejected the newly ordered police investigation into the alleged murder of missing government critic Abubakar Idris, commonly known as Dadiyata.
Okay News reports that Sowore expressed a lack of confidence in the Inspector General of Police‘s Monitoring Unit to conduct an impartial probe. The activist argued that the internal police unit cannot be trusted to objectively investigate high-profile politicians and powerful interests potentially connected to the long-standing case.
Instead of an internal police review, Sowore has demanded the establishment of an independent judicial commission of inquiry. He called for the immediate questioning of several prominent figures, including former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, alleging they all played a role in the 2019 abduction.
The activist’s demands follow a recent directive by IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to investigate explosive claims made by Musa Kamarawa, a former government aide. Kamarawa recently alleged in a petition that two senior police officers openly admitted to killing the social media commentator while he was in their custody in Kaduna.
