PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – Nigeria‘s Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, announced on Monday, May 25, 2026 that the ongoing reconstruction of the state secretariat complex will be completed by the first quarter of 2027.
Okay News reports that Fubara inspected the high-rise administrative facility located in the Old GRA district of Port Harcourt to verify the progress of the internal renovations. The details of the visit were provided in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi.
“We just did a tour of the renovation of the Secretariat. I have been seeing the outer part of it wearing a new look, but I wanted to really confirm how much work is going on, most importantly, the inside, and that is what I just went to inspect myself,” Fubara said.
“I think that with the progress of work here, by the grace of God, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, it will be handed over to the government,” Fubara said. “Like I promised, every job that we are handling, we will ensure that we bring them to completion.”
The Rivers State Secretariat was constructed in the 1970s following the creation of the state in 1967. The complex consists of multiple buildings, including a 17-storey Point Block, a 10-storey Podium Block, and three seven-storey structures designated as Blocks A, B, and C.
