DAMATURU, Nigeria — Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday attended the burial of the late Emir of Ngazargamu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam, in Yobe State.
The Vice President arrived in Damaturu, the state capital, where he joined thousands of mourners who gathered to pay their final respects to the revered traditional ruler. He was received by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and members of the state Executive Council.
Okay News reports that the late monarch died in Egypt after a prolonged illness. He was widely regarded as a respected custodian of the historic Kanem-Bornu Empire and was celebrated for his contributions to peacebuilding, humility, wisdom, and decades of public service.
The 80-year-old emir’s passing has drawn tributes from political leaders, traditional institutions, and members of the public across northern Nigeria, many of whom described him as a unifying figure and a dedicated servant of his people.
Among those who accompanied the Vice President to the burial were Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, Senator K. S. Lawan (SAN), Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje, Senator Mohammed Bomai, Senator Mustapha Musa, Architect Ibrahim Bunu, Hon. Tijjani Zanna Zakariya, Hon. Usman Zanna, and Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori.
Following the burial rites, Shettima returned to Abuja.
