‘Shun Vices in the Holy Land’ — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Warns Kano Pilgrims

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

KANO, Nigeria – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has charged the state’s intending pilgrims to be exemplary ambassadors and strictly avoid any form of misconduct while performing the 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.

Okay News reports that the Governor gave the charge while addressing the first batch of 560 pilgrims prepared for airlift at the state assembly grounds. The warning was contained in a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

“We believe our pilgrims are wonderful people and will not engage in any shameful act,” Governor Yusuf stated, urging them to maintain the highest standards of behavior and fear God throughout their spiritual journey. To ensure their well-being, the Governor announced that his administration has established a dedicated medical team and a fully equipped hospital facility in the Holy Land to provide round-the-clock healthcare services for Kano pilgrims.

The Governor also revealed the official leadership for this year’s delegation, noting that his administration appointed the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, as the Amirul Hajj, with the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz, serving as his deputy. Earlier, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, commended the state government for its logistical support, noting that the board had pre-supplied the first batch of pilgrims with essential hygiene kits, including soap, toothpaste, and brushes, to ease their arrival in Saudi Arabia.

The farewell ceremony was attended by top government dignitaries, including the newly sworn-in Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, who joined the Governor in wishing the pilgrims a safe departure and a blissful, hitch-free Hajj exercise.
