Tinubu Appoints Retired Major General Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as the Special Adviser on Homeland Security, marking a significant step in the administration’s efforts to centralize and strengthen internal security coordination.

Okay News reports that the appointment was announced on Monday in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. The move is designed to enhance intelligence-driven operations and deepen inter-agency collaboration between the military, police, and various intelligence departments.

Major General Fadewa brings over 30 years of military and intelligence experience to the role. He is widely recognized for his tenure as the Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, during which he spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC). The center serves as a critical multi-agency platform integrating data from the DSS, NIA, DIA, and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Following his retirement, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre. He is a noted scholar on national security reform, specifically focused on civil-security cooperation and policing frameworks. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to synchronize the Renewed Hope Agenda’s security objectives with proactive risk management.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s strategic foresight and institutional leadership will be pivotal in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and addressing emerging internal threats across the country.
