Tinubu Declares Economic Reforms Over on Eid-el-Kabir

LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu declared on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, that the country’s period of difficult economic reforms has ended.

Okay News reports that Bola Tinubu issued the declaration in an Eid-el-Kabir message directed to the Muslim faithful.

Bola Tinubu linked the sacrifices of the past three years to current economic conditions. “Just as sacrifice brings reward, I am happy that the sacrifices and efforts we have made over the past three years have yielded a more stable economy, making our country a preferred investment destination that will drive job creation and economic growth,” he said.

“The walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here,” Bola Tinubu said. He stated that the government will continue investing in security, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital.

The address acknowledged ongoing attacks by terrorists and bandits in various communities. These incidents persist following the joint operation by Nigeria and the United States that eliminated ISIS senior leader Abu-Bilal al-Manuki in the Lake Chad Basin. “I am aware that, despite the best efforts of our security and intelligence agencies, including the recent elimination of a wanted ISIS leader, heartless terrorists and bandits still attack some communities,” he said.

Bola Tinubu directed a message to perpetrators of violence in the country. “Let us pray that those who commit crimes among us may rethink and abandon their evil ways, or face the full weight of the law,” he said.
