Tinubu to Attend Mahamat Déby’s Inauguration as Chad’s President

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the inauguration of Mahamat Déby as the President of Chad. This follows Déby’s victory in the recent presidential election, as indicated by provisional results from Chad’s National Election Management Agency in May.

Déby emerged victorious with over 61 percent of the votes, thereby eliminating the need for a run-off election. His closest competitor, Prime Minister Succes Masra, secured 18.5 percent of the vote in what was a closely monitored election.

The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Ngelale, President Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for N’Djamena, the capital of the Republic of Chad, to attend the inauguration ceremony.

“The inauguration of President Déby follows his declaration as the winner of the country’s presidential election earlier this month and subsequent affirmation by the Constitutional Court of Chad,” Ngelale said in the statement.

“President Tinubu will be accompanied on the trip by senior government officials and will return after the ceremony.”
