Venezuela’s Maduro Sends First Message from US Prison Thanking Supporters

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Brooklyn, USA – Nicolás Maduro has expressed gratitude to his supporters in his first social media message since being detained in the United States, following his dramatic capture earlier this year.

In a post shared on his official account, Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, said they remain “steadfast” and “serene,” drawing strength from messages of support sent by followers across the world. However, it remains unclear who published the message, as reports indicate the couple has had no direct access to the internet while in custody.

Okay News reports that the former leader is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where his communication is reportedly limited to brief phone calls with family and legal representatives. Sources say he spends time reading religious texts and maintaining his physical fitness while awaiting trial.

Maduro, who has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges including alleged narco-terrorism and weapons-related offences, was removed from power after a US-led operation in January. Since then, Delcy Rodríguez has assumed leadership, introducing reforms and engaging in renewed diplomatic relations with the United States.

Despite his detention, Maduro described himself as a “prisoner of war” and praised the unity and resilience of the Venezuelan people, expressing admiration for their continued support during what he called a difficult period.
