Veteran Actor Kola Oyewo Opens Up About Prostate Surgery That Left Him Sexually Inactive

By Damilola A.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kola Oyewo, has bravely shared his experience battling prostate enlargement, revealing that the ailment rendered him sexually inactive.

The 77-year-old actor made this revelation during a recent interaction with fellow actors Kunle Afod and Peter Fatomilola, which has since gone viral on the internet.

In the video, conducted in Yoruba language, Oyewo recounted his health journey, starting from experiencing difficulty urinating in July 2019.

He explained that he was diagnosed with prostate enlargement, which required surgical intervention to alleviate the condition and save his life.

“I had an enlarged prostate but I feel better now. In 2019, I first noticed that I would easily pee on myself or find it difficult to urinate,” Oyewo shared.

“I went to the hospital and I was told that my prostate is getting larger and I will undergo surgery. They made an incision on my stomach and inserted what will help me pass out urine to prevent me from dying immediately.”

Detailing the extent of his treatment, Oyewo disclosed that one of the surgeries he underwent resulted in him sacrificing his sexual function.

“Also, I was advised to undergo another surgery that will stop my sexual performance. I told them to go ahead because I no longer need it as my children were grownups with their own kids,” he explained to his visitors.

Kola Oyewo, renowned for his roles in numerous Nollywood classics, including his debut role as Adejare in ‘Orogun Adedigba,’ has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry for decades.

Beyond acting, Oyewo serves as a performing arts lecturer at Elizade University Ilara-Mokin, in Ondo State.
