Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has confirmed reports that the club made a move to sign Paul Pogba in the summer.

Pogba joined Manchester United from Juventus for a world record £89m fee in the summer.

Zidane had declined to comment on the Pogba’s move to Manchester United until an interview with former France teammate Cristophe Dugarry on Radio Montecarlo on Thursday night.

“He could have come,” Zidane said after being asked about Pogba’s move.

“There were conversations to try and sign him but it didn’t go ahead.”

In August Pogba signed a five-year deal with the Old Trafford club, while Madrid failed to make any major signings outside the repatriation of Pogba’s Juve teammate Alvaro Morata.
