By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

Nigerian global music sensation Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has been confirmed as the headline act at the prestigious CANEX 2025 Mega Concert scheduled to take place on Friday, September 5, in Algeria.

The announcement was made by the organisers on September 2, noting that the concert is one of the biggest highlights of the CANEX 2025 exhibition — an event dedicated to showcasing Africa’s national defence, security industries, and cultural creativity.

The mega concert will unite top artists from across the continent, including those from Algeria, Kenya, South Africa, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to organisers, Wizkid’s involvement represents one of the event’s biggest attractions, with his Afrobeat legacy expected to captivate audiences globally.

Event officials stated: “Renowned for his infectious Afrobeat rhythms, chart-topping hits, and magnetic stage presence, Wizkid has become one of Africa’s most celebrated music icons. At CANEX, his music will bring unmatched energy, signature Afrobeat grooves, and a celebration of African culture that promises to unite audiences and create unforgettable live moments.”

Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with claims that the “Essence” crooner could earn as much as ₦6.4 billion ($4.2 million) for his performance. While this figure remains unconfirmed by organisers, posts from platforms such as Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) have amplified the speculation.

Wizkid has consistently ranked among the world’s most sought-after performers. He has graced high-profile stages including London’s O2 Arena, Madison Square Garden in New York, and India’s Umaid Bhawan Palace where he reportedly earned over ₦245 million in 2018. In 2025 alone, he headlined Denmark’s AIA Sound Festival for an alleged $3 million and performed in New York with ticket sales crossing $1 million.

okaynews.com reports that his commanding influence in music and ability to draw diverse global audiences have solidified his reputation as one of Africa’s most valuable cultural exports.
