15 Things You Should Know About Mr 2kay As He Turns A Year Older Today

Nigerian music star, Mr 2kay is a year older today, February 11. Here are 15 facts you probably don’t know about him.

1. He was born Abinye David Jumbo in Bonny Island on February 11 some decades ago in Port Harcourt.

2. He hails from Rivers State.

3. After his birth, his family moved to Bonny Island, Rivers State where he grew up.

4. 2kay was also a good crafts man as he drew portraits while growing up.

5. He grew up with his single mother and the family survived by hawking food with the young Mr 2kay also assisting his mum.

6. He discovered he could sing at the age of 12 while hawking food. He would sing with whatever product he was hawking at the time to attract customers who quickly got enchanted at his talent.

7. After his elementary and secondary school education, Mr 2kay left Bonny Island with the aim of gaining admission into the University of Port Harcourt.

8. He eventually got admitted to study Visual Arts at the University of Port Hacourt but soon dropped out due to shortage in cash flow.

9. After dropping out, he returned to his native Bonny Island where he hustled as a construction worker to raise more funds.

10. He eventually got succor when Grafton Entertainment, owned by businessman, Tonye Ibiama, eventually came to his rescue in 2010.

11. He dropped his debut album, ‘Waterside boy’ in 2012 which was highly acclaimed in the Niger Delta.

12. He was selected to represent South South Nigeria at the 2012 of the Nigeria Carnival in the UK.

13. He has worked in collaboration with top music acts including Iyanya, Timaya, Chidinma , Illbliss, Rugged man, Duncan Mighty, Patoranking and May7even.

14. He won big at the 2015 edition of the Niger Delta Advancement Award including the artiste of the year, Best Collaboration at the Nigerian Entertainment Award while he also got two nominations at the last Headies.

15. His long awaited EP, ‘Count it all joy’ drops today. It has 9 tracks.
