21 Year-old Student Dies in Brazil Bridge Jump Accident

SÃO PAULO, Brazil — A 21-year-old university student has died after falling from a bridge during a recreational jumping activity in São Paulo State, Brazilian authorities have confirmed.

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas lost her life after plunging from a bridge in Limeira on Saturday. Emergency responders, including a police helicopter crew, were deployed to the scene, but she was pronounced dead.

Okay News reports that police have arrested six people in connection with the incident as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.

According to local reports, de Freitas was a physical education and sports management student. Authorities said her fiancé was present at the scene when the tragedy occurred.

Investigators are examining safety procedures and operational practices linked to the activity. Two suspects were reportedly tracked down after allegedly attempting to leave the area following the incident.

Police have not released the full findings of their investigation, but authorities say all those arrested remain under scrutiny as efforts continue to determine responsibility for the fatal accident.
