ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods while continuing efforts to strengthen democratic governance and deliver the benefits of democracy to Nigerians.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the pledge during an appearance on Radio Link, a Radio Nigeria public affairs programme held as part of activities marking 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule and the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
As Okay News reports, the minister acknowledged the security challenges facing parts of the country but insisted that the government remains committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of citizens.
According to Idris, the Tinubu administration is implementing decisive measures aimed at neutralising security threats, restoring stability, and creating an environment where Nigerians can live, work, and pursue economic opportunities without fear.
Speaking on the economy, the minister expressed optimism that the administration’s reform agenda is beginning to yield results. He said key economic indicators suggest that Nigeria is gradually moving towards recovery, stability, and sustainable growth despite prevailing challenges.
Idris described June 12 as a significant symbol of Nigeria’s democratic journey, noting that the date represents the nation’s resilience, courage, and enduring commitment to accountable governance.
He urged Nigerians to embrace the values of transparency, patriotism, and national unity, which he said remain central to the country’s democratic development.
During the live programme, several callers commended the administration’s policies and reforms, while others urged the government to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, stabilise the economy, and strengthen the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
