ILORIN, Nigeria — The Kwara State Police Command has announced plans to begin a statewide enforcement operation against vehicles with covered, obscured, defaced, altered, unauthorised, or missing registration number plates.
The exercise, scheduled to commence on June 15, follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at strengthening security and preventing criminals from concealing their identities while carrying out unlawful activities.
Okay News reports that the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and traffic personnel across the state to enforce the directive and ensure full compliance.
The command warned that any vehicle found violating the order would be impounded and subjected to investigation in line with existing laws. Police authorities stressed that no individual or organisation would be exempt from enforcement, regardless of status or influence.
Vehicle owners were advised to ensure their registration plates are valid, clearly visible, and free from any form of obstruction. Motorists were also urged to keep vehicle documents up to date and available for inspection by law enforcement officers when required.
The police said the operation is intended to improve vehicle identification, aid criminal investigations, track fleeing suspects, and strengthen public safety across the state. Residents were encouraged to support the initiative and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency channels.
