Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has retired from professional football.

The 38-year-old french national announced this through his social media accounts with a video captioned “MERCI AU REVOIR” which means “Thank you, goodbye” in English.

Evra told Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview that: “My playing career is officially over.”

“I started training for the UEFA B Coaching Licence in 2013, now I want to finish it and then go on to get the UEFA A licence.

“In a year and a half, if everything goes well, I’ll be ready to lead a team,” he said.
