MultiChoice, the organizers of the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), has officially announced the commencement of entries for the 10th edition of the annual ceremony.

The AMVCA celebrates outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment across the African continent.

In a statement released on Monday, MultiChoice disclosed that the award categories have been reduced from 33 to 27, a move aimed at aligning with global trends and standards. The 10th edition of AMVCA will feature winners in 25 categories, including two special recognition awards.

One significant change involves the determination of Best Actor or Best Actress in a Leading or Supporting Role winners. Unlike the previous audience voting system, a jury will now decide the winners in these categories. The non-voting categories include Best Director, Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Best Writing in a Movie and TV Series, Best Movie and TV Series, Best Short Film, Best Documentary, Best Sound Design, Editing, and Makeup.

Categories open to public voting include Best Scripted and Unscripted Africa Magic Original, Best Digital Content Creator, Best Indigenous Language (West, East, and Southern Africa), Best Multichoice Talent Factory Film, and Best Indigenous Africa Magic Original.

Busola Tejumola, MultiChoice’s Executive Head of Content, stated, “As we mark the 10th anniversary of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, we are embarking on a bold journey to reevaluate our award categories and further align with global trends and benchmarks.”

The entry submissions are open for films publicly exhibited between December 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023. The entry portal is set to close on February 14, providing filmmakers and content creators an opportunity to showcase their work and vie for one of the prestigious AMVCA awards.
