Veteran Yoruba actress Yetunde Wunmi has opened up about the personal sacrifices she made for her acting career, including the loss of her marriage.

The 64-year-old actress shared her journey in an interview with BBC Yoruba, recounting how her passion for acting shaped her nearly four-decade career in the movie industry.

Wunmi, who began her career in 1982 as a stage performer under Sunday Akinola’s ‘Feyi Kogbon’ theatre group, reflected on a pivotal moment that inspired her love for the stage. She recalled seeing legendary actor Adelove during a performance, which solidified her interest in the craft.

“I cannot forget Adelove. He brought the stage drama to Danjuma film close to where I lived then. He wore all white that day and came with a white car,” she said.

“Everybody ran towards him, and I also went closer to make sure I touched his clothes. I was very happy. I felt like I touched a gold. That was when I developed interest in theatre.”

Wunmi also revealed that her love for acting cost her her marriage, a sacrifice she has come to terms with over the years.

“I lost my marriage due to my love for this theatre. But I never regretted being an actress since then because God has been gracious to me,” she shared.
