Okay News reports that the Yobe State Police Command has launched an investigation into the discovery of a woman’s body found close to the Federal University, Gashua.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident to journalists in Damaturu on Saturday. He said the report was made to the police on Friday by a resident identified as Yusuf Baka from Sabon Daula Ward in Bade Local Government Area.
According to Abdulkarim, the deceased, 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar, was a resident of Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward in Gashua. Her body was discovered near the university fence, dressed in a black hijab.
Police officers from the Gashua Division immediately visited the scene and took the body to the Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
Preliminary investigations, Abdulkarim said, indicated that the woman may have been transported in a vehicle and abandoned at the location, about two kilometres from her home. The body was later handed over to her family for burial after an autopsy was performed according to Islamic rites.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has assured the public that a professional and thorough investigation will be carried out to uncover the cause of her death.
“The Commissioner urges residents to remain calm and to provide useful information that could help in the ongoing investigation,” Abdulkarim added.
He further reaffirmed the command’s dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
In a related development earlier this month, the command revealed that it had arrested a criminal syndicate involved in phone theft and ATM card fraud. According to SP Abdulkarim, operatives from the State Intelligence Department apprehended the suspects who specialised in using stolen mobile phones to access victims’ bank accounts for fraudulent activities.
