Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced that Nigeria’s era of economic volatility and financial instability has ended, citing recent reforms that have restored investor confidence and strengthened the country’s economic outlook.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of the 2025 Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Shettima said the Federal Government’s decisive reforms are stabilising the economy and attracting international recognition.

He pointed to the recent upgrades of Nigeria’s sovereign credit ratings — Fitch’s “B with stable outlook” and Moody’s “B3 with stable outlook” — as clear indicators of renewed global trust in the nation’s economic direction.

“What this administration has achieved is to end the regimes of volatility and unpredictability that once defined our economy,” Shettima stated. “The phase before us now is to ensure that these macroeconomic gains trickle down to the people, from neighbourhood kiosks to multinational boardrooms.”

The Vice President also unveiled plans by the Federal Government to deploy 4,000 new telecom towers to connect 20 million Nigerians currently without mobile service, part of efforts to deepen digital inclusion and expand access across rural and underserved communities.

Shettima explained that the government’s digital transformation drive rests on three pillars — people, infrastructure, and policy — and is being realised through initiatives such as the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, broadband expansion, and the proposed National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, added that Nigeria is implementing a World Bank-backed project to deploy 90,000 kilometres of open-access fibre, describing it as the largest digital infrastructure initiative in any developing nation.

He said, “Digital Nigeria for me is more than just a conference. It is a gathering that reminds us of what digital truly means for our past, present, and future as a nation.”

NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Abdullahi, said the conference theme, “Innovation for a Sustainable Digital Future: Accelerating Growth and Inclusion,” aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s economic diversification agenda and aims to harness Nigeria’s youthful population for national growth.
