President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has convened an extended, high-level security meeting at the State House following a surge in violent attacks and mass abductions across northern Nigeria.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday, the president said he is meeting with Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and heads of key intelligence agencies to review the latest security reports and coordinate immediate response measures.
“We are reviewing the latest reports and taking decisive actions to stabilise the affected areas and protect our citizens,” Tinubu said.
“I am receiving continuous briefings and have directed our security services to move with speed, precision, and absolute resolve.”
The president reaffirmed his commitment to the safety of Nigerians, warning that anyone threatening the nation’s peace “will face the full weight of the law”.
“I am fully committed to the security of all Nigerians,” he said. “Nigeria will prevail.”
The emergency meeting comes after a series of coordinated attacks including the abduction of more than 300 students and staff at St. Mary’s School in Agwara LGA, Niger State, and the kidnapping of 26 schoolgirls in Kebbi earlier in the week.
