Adolf Hitler Uunona has claimed victory in Namibia’s local elections for the fifth consecutive time, capturing a staggering 92% of the vote in the rural Omupundja constituency in the Oshikoto region.

The victory, announced on November 27, 2025, showcases Uunona’s enduring popularity as a SWAPO party stalwart and anti-apartheid activist who’s governed the district since 2004. But it’s not his policy platform on infrastructure and community development that’s dominating headlines—or social feeds. It’s his name; a direct echo of the 20th-century Nazi dictator, in a country once colonized by Germany.

Uunona, whose full name is Adolf Hitler Uunona, has long addressed the elephant—or swastika—in the room. In interviews, he explained that his father chose the moniker in the 1960s, unaware of its dark connotations amid Namibia’s fight for independence from South African apartheid rule. “When I was a child, I thought it was a normal name. Then I grew up and learned that this man wanted to conquer the whole world,” Uunona told local media, emphasizing his total disavowal of Nazism.

Below are different reactions of users on X (formerly Twitter), as spotted by Okay News:

@Totinhiiio: A politician named Adolf Hitler just crushed another election in Namibia, proving voters care more about roads fixed and jobs created than some dusty history book villain. In a country scarred by German colonizers who committed genocide there first, slapping that name on a liberation hero fighting white rule feels like poetic payback. The West frets over “offensive” labels while ignoring the real crimes we backed abroad. Names don’t kill; unchecked empires do. Let the man serve his people.

@KysrCrypto:
A nigga named Adolf Hitler won an election in Namibia

@I91AM: why the actual fuck am i hearing that adolf hitler from namibia is winning the local election? isn’t there another hitler in peru where he pulled off the same shit

@JKTilen: Congratulations to Adolf Hitler, who won the election in Namibia.

@financeforum8: What happens when a man named Adolf Hitler becomes one of Namibia’s most trusted leaders? Not fiction. Not satire. A real story of a name cursed by history… and a man who refused to let it define him. From cattle fields to a 92% election landslide — this journey will change the way you think about identity, legacy, and redemption.

@Totinhiiio: Adolf Hitler Uunona winning again in Namibia flips history on its head—voters chose a man with that name over colonial baggage, proving local roots trump global outrage. His SWAPO party fights for liberation, not genocide, yet the West clutches pearls while ignoring our own past sins like slavery. Names carry weight, but actions define leaders. Let him govern his people without our sanctimonious meddling—focus on fixing our own messy democracy first.

@TheWisdomToKnow: What if it was you your name? ‘My father gave me this name,’ Uunona, a member of Namibia’s left-leaning ruling party, said, ‘but it does not mean I have Adolf Hitler’s character or resemble that of Adolf Hitler of Germany.’ He won his last election in 2020 with 85% of the vote

@TheWisdomToKnow: Slander. What if it was you your name? ‘My father gave me this name,’ Uunona, a member of Namibia’s ruling party, said, ‘but it does not mean I have Adolf Hitler’s character or resemble that of Adolf Hitler of Germany.’ He won his last election in 2020 with 85% of the vote.

@holewomanlovesx: BREAKING: Adolf Hitler Uunona just crushed it in Namibia’s local elections for the FIFTH straight term in a LANDSLIDE win in Ompundja. Locals say they’re voting for the name, the vibes, and the sheer meme energy. “Nobody campaigns like the original,” one supporter allegedly shouted while waving a SWAPO flag. Opposition in shambles. Media in tears. History books updating themselves.

He has governed the district since 2004. Uunona has acknowledged that he was indeed named after the Nazi dictator, but says he has no connection to Nazism.
